I hate Mozilla Virus :: w32.USBWorm

I was asked by my friend that he is the only user in his computer, his account is having administrative rights, but he is not able to open Orkut, and it says Orkut is banned. Another friend had told that he is not able to use Mozilla Firefox and it asks him to use Internet Explorer. I just told it must be some virus, but really didn't care much about that. But none of the antivirus software could remove detect or remove this malware.

My friend had given me a pen drive. I remembered it while browsing net on Firefox. When I put that in my PC and double clicked, it didn't open. I knew at once: I had activated a virus. But I didn't have any idea about the kind of virus that might have come to my PC, until I switched back to Firefox. Immediately a message box was displayed: I DNT HATE MOZILLA BUT USE IE OR ELSE... with title as USE INTERNET EXPLORER U DOPE. I just remembered the experiences of my friends. I tried to locate the virus by running the Task Manager. But there were no suspicious entries there. I had to bow the owner of the virus. I used Internet Explorer to search about it. The first entry in Google took me to the Mozilla Forum page, and after going through some pages, I came to know that the same virus also displayed another message when you opened Orkut. Orkut is banned you fool, The administrators didnt write this program guess who did?? MUHAHAHA!! with title ORKUT IS BANNED. Well, a similar message was displayed for YouTube also.
It seems that they have named this malware as w32.USBWorm and according my friend, Avast is able to detect and remove it. I hope the other antivirus software will also be able to remove it soon.

Else follow the steps given below and get rid of it..
So I went through all the posts, and finally found a solution given here:
  1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and go to the processes tab
  2. Look for svchost.exe under the image name. There will be many but look for the ones which have your username under the username
  3. Press DEL to kill these files. It will give you a warning, Press Yes
  4. Repeat for more svchost.exe files with your username and repeat. Do not kill svchost.exe with system, local service or network service!
  5. Now open My Computer
  6. In the address bar, type C:\heap41a and press enter. It is a hidden folder, and is not visible by default.
  7. Delete all the files here
  8. Now go to Start --> Run and type Regedit
  9. Go to the menu Edit --> Find
  10. Type "heap41a" here and press enter. You will get something like this "[winlogon] C:\heap41a\svchost.exe C:\heap(some number)\std.txt"
  11. Select that and Press DEL. It will ask "Are you sure you wanna delete this value", click Yes
  12. Now close the registry editor.
Now the virus is gone. But be sure to delete the autorun.inf file and any folder whose name ends with .exe in the pen drive.

List of Free Proxy Servers in Canada to access Blocked sites easily..

After my previous article last week listing all the free proxy servers available worldwide to access blocked sites in certain places like Orkut, myspace, gmail, yahoo, youtube etc - I have received more requests from readers to give them proxy servers that are faster.

So the answer to the problem lies in finding proxy servers in your own country. Well, I will be starting off country by country and the first one to come on the list is Canada. Here we go Canadians Pals - hope you find this consolidated list useful to access the banned/blocked sites in Canada.

Note: Few pages might be blocked by fortigaurd or similar network administrators.. In such cases just add an extra s after http_:// that is https:// and you would gain access to most of the sites.

Lock your Folder WIthout Any Software.

Its a trick which can be implemented in Windows XP to deny access to some folders. Use the steps given below to use trick.

Suppose you want to lock the folder games in d: which
has the path D:\Games.In the same drive create a text
file and type:

ren games games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

Now save this text file as loc.bat

create another text file and type in it:

ren games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} games

Now save this text file as key.bat
Now you can see 2 batch files loc and key. Press loc and the folder games will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents. Press key and you will get back your original folder

There are other codes which can even be tried::: Use the step as above to turn them into other folders except control corner. To do that simply replace the .extension with the names given below.

{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} - Turned to Explorer {0DF44EAA-FF21-4412-828E-260A8728E7F1} - Turned to startmenu properties {6DFD7C5C-2451-11d3-A299-00C04F8EF6AF} - Turned to Folder Options {7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} - Turned to Network Connections {D20EA4E1-3957-11d2-A40B-0C5020524152} - Turned to Fonts Folder {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} - Turned to Shedule tasks {E211B736-43FD-11D1-9EFB-0000F8757FCD} - Turned to Scanners & camera {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} - Turned to Recycle bin {2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} - Turned to Printers Folder

So sit back and hide your important folders from others

The only problem with this trick is that if someone opens the folder using a software suppose power achiever or winRar explorer then the extension to the folder would also be shown. And if the person deletes the extension then the folder can be easily be accessible.

Scientists study if sea-horses do boost SEX

Dona Paula: Indian scientists are hoping to discover once and for all if seahorses are an aphrodisiac, a myth that has made the creatures an endangered species. Seahorses have been eaten for more than 2,000 years and, as well as being a traditional way of improving sex-drive, are also thought to help respiratory problems. The National Institute of Oceanography in Goa is teaming up with the National Centre for Cell Sciences to try to unravel the mysteries of the unusual fish.

Seahorses range in size from 16 mm to 35 cm and are notable for being the only species in which males become “pregnant”. Raidurga Sreepada, a leading scientist at the NIO, said confirming the properties of one of world’s most complex living creatures will not only help the pharmaceutical sector but also help stamp out rampant poaching. Scientists say that once they establish seahorses’ properties, fishing communities and even poachers will be encouraged to set up hatcheries instead of taking them from the wild.

“They are being hunted since 342 BC and it is now the hottest recipe for traditional medicines of China, Korea and Thailand as an aphrodisiac, a drug against bronchial asthma and whooping caugh,” Sreepada said. Research will begin in February. The NIO estimates 20 million seahorses are traded across the world each year. “India is one of its largest clandestine exporters, shipping 1.3 million seahorses annually,” the NIO told the Central government in October while asking for funds.

One kilogram or about 100 dried seahorses fetch up to $200 in countries such as the United States which have large Chinese populations, it said. P.S. Parmeshwaran, NIO scientist for chemistry, said both China and Australia had done similar research, but the results had not been made public. “We intend to (make the findings public), as either way, we will help the seahorse population,” Sreepada added.

The Do-It-Yourself Cell Phone Network Revolution

Do-it-yourself wireless was inevitable, says Juha Christensen, Sonopia's founder and CEO. With consumers increasingly demanding media customization, from ring tones to YouTube video, he says it was only a matter of time before "micro-segmentation" found its way to wireless.

If you're tired of dealing with big cell phone companies, here's an idea: Start your own.

That's what Rod Farthing did. A part-time college professor in Toledo, Ohio, Farthing launched "Farthing Mobile" a few weeks ago. His service has eight subscribers, all family members and close friends, "but anybody can join."

Farthing says he decided to start his network -- a so-called MVNO or mobile virtual network operator, which transmits calls on one of the existing wireless networks -- because he was tired of hassling with the big carriers. "I'm unhappy with them all."

Do-It-Yourself Wireless

Farthing is a leader in what could become a revolution in wireless: do-it-yourself cell phone networks.

At least that's the hope of Sonopia, the company that enables Farthing Mobile and about 1,000 other new MVNOs, including: Yoga Phone, Obama for President Mobile and Peterman Mobile (dedicated to cat-lovers, it is named for the founder's 17-pound Maine Coone).

The company recently began offering individuals and groups the ability to set up a personalized wireless service free by going to its Web site -- www.sonopia.com.

No need to worry about back-room details, like billing and customer support , for the service. Sonopia handles all that. Prices for the service plans are competitive with name-brand providers.

An added bonus: Sonopia pays virtual network founders 3 percent to 8 percent -- depending on the number of subscribers -- of their service's monthly revenue.

Customized Services

Services can be customized in a variety of ways.

The Long Island Ducks baseball team (LI Ducks Mobile) is working on a "quack" ring tone, says General Manager Michael Pfaff. Also in the works: weather updates, team news and special promotions, all sent via cell phones.

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF Mobile) plans to use its network to keep members informed about pending legislation and other news of interest to its 5 million members and supporters, says Greg Griffith, director of cause marketing.

In addition to offering a communications outlet for the group, NWF Mobile will provide income.

"We think this is going to be a great tool," Griffith says.

Juha Christensen, Sonopia's founder and CEO, says do-it-yourself wireless was inevitable.

Only a Matter of Time

With consumers increasingly demanding media customization, from ring tones to YouTube video, he says it was only a matter of time before "micro-segmentation" found its way to wireless.

"If you fast forward five years from now, we think it is unlikely that the cell phone market won't be as vibrant and micro-segmented as many other industries," he says. "We're just trying to step in early."

Sonopia, based in Menlo Park, Calif., owns no cell phone network or wireless spectrum. It buys wireless minutes in bulk from Verizon Wireless, then packages them into generic cell phone plans for its clients. Sonopia also has deals with device makers, including LG and Motorola (NYSE: MOT) , to provide handsets and other gear.

For all its differences from the big guys, one aspect of Sonopia's service is very familiar: contracts. Subscribers must sign up for one or two years, and early termination fees apply.

Right Now the Service is Limited to US customers but the revolution of this stature is worth taking note of. Its has the potential of changing the complete scene of the Telecom industry.

Bhima's son Gadotkach like skeleton found

Recent exploration activity 1n the northern region of India uncovered a skeletal remains of a human of phenomenal size. This region of the indian desert is called the Empty Quarter.

See the photo and note the size of the two men standing in the picture in comparison to the size of the skeleton!!

A very small article on this was published in Times Of India- Mumbai edition on 22-Apr-2004.

The discovey was made by National Geographic Team (India Division) the support from the indian Army since the area comes under the jurisdiction of the army.

The exploration team also found tablets vdth inscriptions that stated that our Gods of Indian mythologicalyore, Brahma", had created people of phenomenal size the like of which He has not created since. They were very tall, big, and very powedul, such that they could put their arms around a tree trunk and uproot it.
They were created to bring order among us since we were always fighting with each other. One of he sons of Bhima of the Pandava brothers is also thought of to have been carrying these genes. Later these people, who were given all the power turned against all our Gods and transgressed beyond all boundaries set. As a result they were destroyed by God Shiva.

The Geo Exploration team believes these to be the remains of those people.

Govt of India has secured the whole area and no one is, allowed to enter except the NatGeo personnel.

On September 16, 2000, Steve Westin of our staff was a guest at the site outside Hyde Park, New York, where the Paleontological Research Institution and the Cornell Department of Geological Sciences are excavating the skeleton of a mastodon.

Is it Real or Not? - Hoax News....

The image first surfaced in October 2002 as an entry in a Photoshop contest run by Worth1000.com. It was created by altering an actual photo of a Cornell University excavation of a mastodon skeleton.Watch the original image as above which was editted.

Formula adds unbeaten innings to correct batting average anomaly

If you’re tired of the Aussie dominance in cricket, Sumit Narayanan and Sanchit Maini may have the right tonic for you.

The two actuaries — the people who help companies choose the best insurance deals to offer customers — have taken a break from calculating mortality figures to devise a new formula to determine one of cricket’s most debated statistics: batting averages.

And their system is bad news for the Kangaroos.

Traditionally, batsmen’s averages have been calculated by dividing the runs scored by the number of innings played. The denominator, however, omits the number of unbeaten innings. The argument is, one can’t know how many more runs the batsman might have scored had he batted on. For instance, if a batsman has scored 200 runs in five innings while remaining not out once, his average is calculated as 200/5-1, that is, 50.

It’s long been argued that this formula is biased in favour of batsmen who come later in the order. It also rewards “selfish” players who down shutters while batting with tail-enders, and punishes those who get out while throwing their bat around for the team’s sake.

The algorithm developed by Narayanan and Maini — published in the May edition of the actuarial journal The Actuary — tries to correct this. “The challenge was to somehow incorporate the ‘not out’ innings into the batting average while accounting for the fact that the batsman could have scored more had the innings continued,” Narayanan said over the phone from Singapore, where he works with actuarial multinational Watson Wyatt.

The new method includes the unbeaten innings in the denominator. But to be fair to the batsman, it gives it a fraction value.

This is done by comparing the average number of balls (ANOB) the batsman faced in an innings over his career with the number of balls he faced (NOB) in an unbeaten innings. Divide NOB by ANOB to get the “weightage” of the innings.

“If a batsman faces an average of 50 balls an innings, and faced 25 while remaining not out, this (unbeaten) innings would be considered half an innings (weightage 0.5),” explained Maini, vice-president of Max New York Life India.

If NOB equals or is more than ANOB, the weightage given is 1. The runs are now divided by the number of innings, which include the sum of the weightages for all the unbeaten innings.

To continue with the earlier example, suppose the batsman faced 20 balls in his lone unbeaten innings and that his ANOB is 50. So, the weightage given to the unbeaten innings is 20/50 or 0.4. His revised average becomes 200/4.4, that is, 45.4.

So who’s the better one-day batsman, Sachin Tendulkar or “finisher” Michael Bevan? The Australian’s average, calculated conventionally, is nearly 10 more than Sachin’s. But the new formula puts the Indian ahead.

Michael Clarke, whose average drops by nearly 10 runs, and Andrew Symonds join Bevan among the top-rung Aussies who slip a few notches. Other famous finishers such as Dean Jones and Javed Miandad — India’s nemesis for several years — suffer, too.

Not so Virender Sehwag but then, staying unbeaten is clearly not his forte.

Topping the one-day averages under the new method is Viv Richards with Sachin and Ricky Ponting following him.

“Those whose averages drop the least are the ones whose statistics haven’t been bloated by not-outs,” Narayanan says.

But the method has a flaw. What if the batsman faces more balls than his ANOB in an unbeaten innings? The weightage is a full 1, that is, no allowance is made for an unbeaten innings.

In other words, the system punishes a batsman for playing a long, match-winning innings and finishing the game. The Bevans and Joneses may, indeed, have reason to feel short-changed.

Former cricketer and coach Sandeep Patil puts it in perspective for those preparing to celebrate the “fall of the Aussies”.

“The Australians whose averages suffer are the finishers. That they remain not out so often means they generally take their team to victory. If our numbers 5, 6 and 7 don’t have many not-outs under their belt, should we be celebrating?” he laughs.

Currently, Narayanan says, the formula is suited only to one-day internationals. “In Tests, batsmen stay not out much less often.”

But the two are working to find a modified formula for Tests. When they succeed, one Brian Charles Lara, prone to play long innings but still get out, may have another feather to add to his many-hued cap.

Did Boyfriend Kill TCS Girl?::Orkut profile link included::complete story

A 24-year-old Tata Consultancy Services engineer was found dead on Monday morning in a hotel room in Andheri, where she had checked in with a male companion on Saturday.

Koushambi Layek, a systems consultant with TCS, was found dead in room number 202 of Hotel Sun-n-Sheel in Andheri (East) when the hotel staff opened the door with a duplicate key after their repeated calls on the intercom went unanswered. She was found lying on the bed soaked in blood with two bullets wounds.

Mumbai police is drawing a sketch of the man who identified himself as Manish Thakur and accompanied Koushambi to the hotel where she was found dead. The Manish Thakur in this photograph was a close friend of hers
Koushambi had checked into the hotel at 7 am on Saturday, May 12 with a man who signed as Manish Thakur in the guest register.

On Monday, the hotel staff called up the room at around noon and when nobody responded despite repeated attempts, they opened the door with a duplicate key.

"Koushambi was shot twice from point blank range - one bullet lodged in her head and the other in her neck. We have recovered her TCS identity card, a railway pass and a chopper from the spot," said Deputy Commissioner Naik Navre.

Nobody in the hotel heard the gun shots and the police suspect that Koushambi was gagged before being shot. The police are now in the process of drawing a sketch of the man with whom Koushambi had checked in with the help of the descriptions provided by the hotel staff.

VICTIM: Koushambi Layek, 4 fans 248 scraps 3 photos 0 videos
According to the police, the couple had been to other hotels also in the vicinity too the past two months and each time the room was booked in Manish Thakur’s name who gave a Kolkata address.

Koushambi, a native of Dumka in Chhatisgarh, shared an apartment with two TCS girls in Regalia Co-operative Housing Society in Borivli. Before moving in there, she was staying with four of her TCS colleagues — Shilpa Gangarde, Megha Acharya, Nalini Gupta and Nidhi Jain — at Sai Shraddha Housing Society at Ashokvan.

Sandeep Narvankar, secretary of Sai Shraddha Housing Society, said they never had any complaints against Koushambi from any of the residents. Suresh Singh, a watchman, said he had not seen Koushambi with any boy in the building. “She never came home late and was never accompanied by anyone,” he added.

A dog sniffs the shoes of the suspect at the Sun-N-Sheel Hotel where the TCS systems engineer was found dead. (Inset) Koushambi Layek, the victim
Interestingly, there is a Manish Thakur listed among Koushambi’s friends on Orkut. And this what she has to say about him: “Well, what to say about this sportive guy...he is really caring and loving guy...He is amazing, awesome and friendly. I need not describe him as anyone close to him must surely be aware of his abilities. He is an all-rounder..Be it in the field of studies, sports or music. He is a champ...Don’t u think so???”

Manish Thakur’s profile on Orkut opens with: “Hi, this is Manish here. hope u will find it interesting with me. all the best. only good friends are allowed, thankx...”

He gives his age as 28 and says he is on Orkut for friends, activity partners and business networking. In the space for residential address, he mentions two cities -- Kolkata and Kochi.

Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said: “Police has managed to get contact numbers of Manish Thakur and the numbers are being tracked to reach the suspect. We are hopeful to get hold of him soon, although we are not sure if he entered his real name in the register.”

A Team of Mumbai policemen are in Goa to take custody of Navy engineer Manish Thakur, who was held by the Navy Police.

Thakur, who went missing after the killing and is the “prime suspect”, “is married but still started a relationship with Koushambi. He told her family that he would marry her after divorcing his wife,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X) JJ Naiknavare told Newsline after taking statements from Layek’s mother, brother Sounak — who have come to Mumbai — and colleagues.

"
Layek’s mother was against the relationship because Thakur was married,” added Additional Commissioner of Police (Western Region) Bipin Bihari. Naiknavare said Thakur and Layek were seeing each other since 2005. They first met in Trivandrum.

The DCP said Layek — who was an assistant systems engineer with TCS — may have pressurised Thakur to divorce his wife and marry her. “But we do not say this could be the motive behind the murder as we are still to question Thakur,” said Naiknavare.

Alok Mishra, the Defence Public Relations Officer, Maharashtra and Goa, said: “Yes, Thakur was held in Goa on Tuesday night and will be handed over to the police after the required procedure.”

According to the police, the Navy authorities have asked them to show the evidence they have against Thakur. The police expect that Thakur would be handed over to them by Wednesday evening and would be brought to Mumbai by Thursday.

The police say Layek’s family had never met Thakur, but Sounak had spoken to him a few months back.

The police have learnt that Thakur’s wife and his child are in Kolkata. He was based in Kochi, working for the Navy as an aircraft maintenance engineer in the senior sailor’s position.

“The murder does not seem to have been committed in the spur of a moment, but is a well planned one, as the accused had two weapons with him,” said Senior Police Inspector with the MIDC police station Pradeep Sonawane — a chopper was found in the room and a live bullet apparently from the pistol used to shoot her.

The police say Layek’s mobile phone is missing, they suspect that Thakur may have taken it with him. However, they have accessed her cell phone records and found that she and Thakur used to stay in touch through phone calls and SMSes.

Captain Nambiar, Navy spokesperson in Kochi, told Newsline today: “Thakur was based at Kochi till February 10 but was then sent for technical training to Goa. This is a mandatory three-month course for sailors.”

When asked if Thakur could have taken a weapon from the Navy’s arms room, Nambiar said: “The Navy arms room would have weapons like 9 mm or .38 caliber pistols, but it is very difficult to smuggle them out.” The police suspect that the live bullet found in room number 202 of Hotel Sun N Sheel — where Layek’s body was found — could have come from a 9 mm or .38 caliber weapon.

“We think the weapon used in the murder was a .38 bore pistol, which is a prohibited bore meant only for Defence and police personnel. We suspect Thakur may have used his service weapon, but are yet to confirm this with Naval authorities,” said Bihari.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, which the police received today, Layek suffered brain haemorrhage because of the wounds in the head when she was shot.

The entire story can be found at the following popular Mumbai Newspaper - Mumbai Mirror.

Ex-India cricketer held with cocaine::Maninder Singh

Former Indian Test cricketer turned television commentator Maninder Singh has been arrested for possessing cocaine at his residence in the Capital on Tuesday.

The narcotics department of the Delhi Police arrested Maninder with 1.5 grams of cocaine from his Preet Vihar residence on Tuesday night after the police got a tip-off. He was being questioned by police.

A suspected drug peddler, identified as Sayam Siddique, who was with Maninder when the police raided his house, was also arrested.

Former left-arm spinner Maninder Singh, who made his India debut at the age of 17 against Pakistan in 1982-83, played 35 Tests and 59 one-day internationals for the country.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act makes a distinction between possession for personal consumption and trafficking, the punishment for the former being limited to between six months and one year only.

The onus is on the accused to establish that the drug in question was meant for personal consumption and not for sale or distribution.

More than 3 grams of cocaine classifies a person as peddler. A peddler gets more than 10 years jail. Below 3 grams only classifies the person as a user.

Amsterdam : First 3D city to feature on Google Earth

Google Earth has just released 3D buildings for the entire city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands - Yes you heard it right Entire City of Amsterdam, thereby Amsterdam becomes the first city on Google Earth to be available completely in 3D.

Amsterdam is the first city to be available 100 percent as a Google Earth 3D city. Google Earth has managed to create all the buildings in 3D format. It has designed a number of gray colored building shapes for Amsterdam. As Google Earth Blog has rightly said, the buildings are created in 2.5D view - similar to the other buildings included for many major cities.

The building models are those simple, gray colored, type of models that give you an idea of the size and dimensions of buildings. Just like the 3D buildings that Google Earth first released almost two years ago for 35 US cities, and then later for most of Japan. These buildings will undoubtedly be used for the 2.5D views shown for Google Maps to provide an feel for buildings in major cities.
